PPE/PPR never charges the user anything

PPE/PPR never charges the user anything other than events/results. I probably confused you with unnecessary optionality. TL;DR if you use APIFY_PROXY_PASSWORD, it uses proxy available to the user (every user has access to unlimited RESIDENTIAL). But all charges to any platform resources (CUs, proxy, storage access) are not charged to users but subtracted from your payouts. So if you generate $1 event which costs $0.1 in proxy, user pays Apify $1 for event, your payout is $1 - 0.1 = $0.9 (at the end of month, Apify takes 20% overall cut for all payouts)

Hi Lukas, does the same go for rental pricing models? I see the price is $10 / GB fo residential proxies on the Creator plan. If I have a rental for $X/month using residential proxies, that means I can be in the negative if the proxy usage is high, is that correct?

No, in rental, the user pays the platform costs + rental, you only get rental. So it is safer for creators.

Thanks. So proxy costs for rentals are charged to users and for PPR charged to developer?

yes. For devs, they are not "charged", just subtracted from revenue

I can lose money potentially if proxy costs exceed what I charge users right? If I envision proxy costs to be higher than revenue then I'd be better off going the rental route so users pay for their own usage and I could charge a reasonable price?

1. 🏠 Rental • The user pays for everything, including: • Compute Units (CU) • Apify proxies, but only if you use the APIFY_PROXY_PASSWORD variable (i.e., the user provides their proxy credentials or pays for Apify’s proxy). • ⚠️ If you use your own hardcoded proxy credentials (external or internal), you will cover the cost, not the user. • ✅ Recommendation: Be efficient with CU and proxy usage so that the user wants to keep renting your actor. 2. 💰 Pay per Result / Pay per Event • If the user is on a free plan: • Apify covers Compute Units (CU) and proxies (if using APIFY_PROXY_PASSWORD). • 🚫 External services and your own hardcoded proxy credentials are not covered → in that case, you pay those costs. • If the user is on a paid plan: • All costs (CU, proxies, etc.) are deducted from your earnings. • In other words, Apify subtracts expenses before paying you. 3. ❓ Question about the Creator plan and proxies I currently have a Creator plan, which gives me $500 in credit for 6 months. I’d like to take advantage of that by using my own Apify proxy, setting the proxy password from the “Settings” section of my account securely in my code. ❓ In that case, would the proxy usage be deducted from my Creator Plan balance (the $500), and not from my actor’s monetized earnings? This assumes that I’m NOT using the APIFY_PROXY_PASSWORD variable, since that would use the user’s proxy, not mine.

âť“ Question about the Creator plan and proxies
Yes, that would deduct from your creator plan.
