One-off charge or lower price for ability to use proxies locally?

At a glance

The community member is exploring a platform and would like to run their actor locally on their own machine, but the $49/month cost for the paid plan is too steep for them at the moment. The comments suggest that for open-source actors, the community member could clone the repo and run it locally, but for paid actors or those without open-source code, this is not possible. The community member is writing their own actor to scrape content from a store listing with anti-scraping measures, and they wanted to run it behind a proxy to ensure it works properly, but they cannot do this locally. The community members discuss that external access to a proxy is only available on the paid plans starting at $49/month, and one community member suggests reaching out to support to see if there are any other options.

$49/m is too steep for me at this point in time–I'm just exploring the platform and am hoping that it's possible to pay a handful of schrute bucks so I can run my actor locally on my own machine.

Hey there! For actors that are open-source (meaning you could get access to the code) - you could always clone the repo and run it locally. Paid actors and some other actors that don't have the code open-source - it's not possible, I'm afraid
Thanks – I'm actually writing my own actor to scrape content from a store listing that has decent anti-scraping measures. Because of the protections, I had wanted to make sure I was running behind a proxy–it looks like I can't do that locally, though.

Just means I have to push my changes up every time and wait for a bit to see what the results of my changes are.
I was hoping I could manage to get the ability to use the proxy for local work to speed up my workflow, but it looks like the lowest tier paid account with proxy access is $49/m?
Yeah, external access to proxy (exactly your case) is only available on paid plans (starting from 49), but try writing a message to our support - maybe they'll offer some options
Perfect–thank you
